What is a combination oil pressure switch and oil pressure sender? How is it used?
What is a combination oil pressure switch and oil pressure sender?
A combination oil pressure switch and oil pressure sender is a oil pressure sensor type generator protection device that combines both a oil switch and oil sender into one single device. The combination switch sender will still have separate outputs for the switch and the sender, but they are combined into one device to save cost and also reduce the time to fit. Where a separate sender and switch are fitted on an engines and there is only one location available, two pieces may be needed, which increased fitting time further and allows more space for leaks. Therefore generally combined switch and sender combinations are of benefit to everyone, with no downside. While more expensive than either a switch or a sender, they are cheaper that two individual units.
This is a Fozmula V977060 oil pressure switch and sender combination. Found on Welland Power generators since mid 2018.
How is it used?
The combination sender and switch has separate connections and each connection is used in the same way as its equivalent individual item. So the oil switch connection on the combination sensor is used like an individual oil pressure switch and the oil sender connection is used like the individual oil pressure sender.
How do I test a combination oil pressure sender and oil pressure switch?
You need to isolate the individual pins and test each like you would test an oil pressure switch or like you would test an oil pressure sender.
This is again the Fozmula V977060 combination sender and switch. The connection marked G is the sender connection, the connection marked WK is the switch connection. both of these connections return to ground via the engine block.
